The Blackwell Epiphany

7. The Blackwell Epiphany

Platform: Steam
Price: $15

The final installment of the Blackwell point-and-click adventure game series, Epiphany brings the story of medium Rosa Blackwell, her dead partner Joey Mallone, and their efforts to guide spirits to the other side for a satisfying close—proving the point-and-click genre is still capable of producing great games. Despite its complex story, much of the game’s strength comes from its challenging, though not convoluted puzzles. And even if you do ever find yourself at a loss, the game contains a hint feature that will give you an appropriately subtle push in the right direction. Like the other Blackwellgames, this title features pixelated, 90’s-style graphics, but developer Wadjet Eye has perfected the style, resulting in a game that is surprisingly beautiful. Perhaps the only major drawback here is thecomplex and well-written story, which is hard to understand out of context, and will so be better appreciated by long-time fans of the franchise than by newbies of the series.
