A new low was stooped when the entertainment giant known as Sony Music was caught raising prices of Whitney Houston Ultimate Collection album via iTunes and Amazon…nearly 30 minutes after her death on Saturday February 11. Rather than celebrate the troubled musician’s life and share her legendary music with the world in a classy way, Sony increased the value of Houston’s greatest hits selection by more than 60 percent from £4.99 to £7.99, according to Digital Spy.

Prices dropped back to the original value sometime over the weekend, but no reason was given for the increase. Fans of the late singer had blamed Apple at first for the price hike on iTunes, but The Guardian clarified that the Cupertino Clan changed the pricing after Sony Music “lifted the wholesale price” of the album.

Official Charts Company expects Houston’s catalog to dominate the album and singles charts this week, as history has shown the death of musician’s usually leads to major music sales. Hence, Sony Music’s desperate move.

As expected, neither Sony or Apple have commented or responded on the matter. Just another case of a record label milking its musician after their sudden passing. Can you say boycott?
