Microsoft has finally gone on to confirm the official title and release window for the Xbox One Halo sequel. Halo 5: Guardians will launch in fall 2015.

With the announcement made, developer 343 Industries also went on to fuel rumors of a 2014 release for the long-awaited Halo 2 Anniversary Edition by hinting at its existence. General Manager Bonnie Ross spoke on the possibility:

“Many fans noted that I was very deliberate with my phrasing on stage at E3 last year. I spoke about a “journey,” rather than a destination—and that journey definitely begins in 2014 with a giant leap, rather than one small step.”

The reports go back what Master Chief actor Steve Downes stated about Halo 5 not being released in 2014, but to look forward to Halo 2 Anniversary instead. “I think you may be ahead of yourself on Halo 5. I wouldn’t expect anything until 2015. What you can look forward to this year is an anniversary edition of Halo 2,” Downes told Gamerzone. Keep in mind the statement was later retracted and he issued a new one.

Seems all legit to us, though we expect Microsoft to make Halo 5 its biggest player at E3 2014.
