The main problem with the Gear Fit, however, is a much more practical one – its display runs along the long side of the screen, so whichever way round it is, it’s hard to read. Like the original Gear it feels like a great product that is not yet ready. With a music player built in, for instance, it would be rather more persuasive. Similarly, rival, cheaper devices also track sleep…It’s a cliché in tech circles that version three of any product is the one that’s really ready: the first iPhone didn’t even have 3G. The new Gear is version two; the Fit is version one. Samsung is, above all, two generations ahead of any of its real rivals.
