The best part of D3O armor is that it lets designers create the clothes people want to wear, whether it protects them or not. Case in point, the Stryker Rig and the One Thousand Chapter Jacket from Icon. The Stryker Rig is one take on the material; the ultimate suit of armor for the road. Slathered in mesh and CE Level D3O protection, it’s the optimum equipment if Master Chief ever wanted to jump on a motorcycle.
The flip side of the coin is the One Thousand Chapter Jacket, which for me was a revelation. I’m not a skulls and flames fan, so for Icon to produce a jacket so classic and understated was hugely exciting. No gimmicks, no logos, just timeless style. The One Thousand Chapter Jacket also has D3O armor in all the right places, but the back is CE certified. The leather is thick, the fit is tailored perfectly, and the quality is excellent. Somewhere, a whole herd of cows went missing overnight to make this and I thank them for their sacrifice.
Plus, it even comes with a number plate. A number plate, the same thing found on the rarest machinery in the world can now be found in a jacket. But there are a bunch of cool Easter eggs like this that you’ll have to see for yourself, but my favorite was the tag I photographed above. Gentleman’s choice indeed.
