Gamers got quite a shock on Saturday when the servers for Destiny and Call of Duty: Ghosts suddenly went down, kicking gamers out of their matches. To add insult to injury, the error message that appeared on gamers’ screens read “For information on resolving this issue visit help.bungie.net and search for: cattle.”
The games went down across all platforms, indicating that the hackers directly attacked Bungie’s servers. The games were down for several hours but both were restored by the end of the day.
Hacking group Lizard Squad, which temporarily took down the PlayStation Network last month, claimed responsibility for shutting down Destiny and CoD: Ghosts on their official Twitter handle. There had been rumors that they group had disbanded, but it appears that for the moment at least they are still in operation. Following last month’s attack on the PSN, the FBI opened an investigation into Lizard Squad.
