The Koenigsegg Agera has become an auto luxury staple on the international front for the past couple of months. Now the Swedish carmaker looks to import its latest supercar series to the states, with hopes to “attain a second smart airbag exemption” from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Koenigsegg looks to ship its first Agera model by June, but considering other supercar startups like Pagani already failing to lockdown an exemption, the odds aren’t in favor of the Swedes.
Founder and CEO Christian Von Koenigsegg has argued that drivers who own his supercars “rarely carry children on board,” according to documents filed with the Department of Transportation. A decision on the airbag exemption should be made sometime in the new few months.
On the international tip, Koenigsegg has plans of revealing its 100th car at the Geneva Motor Show in March, while working on a new ‘camless’ engine design, which could reduce fuel consumption by up to 30 perent. Rumor has it if the Agera hits the states, we could see the new engine under the hood. Lets see what the NHTA does.
