Facebook Most Shared Stories of 2011

The world’s largest social media site site put together a list of its most shared of stories of 2011, which was dominated by parental, zodiac, and natural disaster stories. Topping the list was the New York Times coverage of the tsunami and quake attacks that struck Japan, followed by CNN stories “What parents really want to tell parents,” and ” No, your zodiac sign hasn’t changed.” The most shocking statistic we found was that 30 percent of stories shared on the social network were sourced from Yahoo!, while 21 of the 40 spots were occupied by the larger and more reputable news outlets like CNN, NYT, the Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal. The late Steve Jobs made the list three times and ranked lower on the list, which is pretty shocking considering the Apple visionary is the most searched term of 2011. Oh well.
