Ever since her butt-kicking debut in Iron Man 2, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow has been a mainstay in the Avengers Initiative. The popularity of her character has garnered massive fan-wide support for her own solo movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, Marvel has no plans to give Johansson’s character her own film anytime soon; the lineup of Phase Three is set and there is no Black Widow movie on the horizon. Still, her character will be featured in upcoming movies, including The Avengers: Age of Ultron. In a recent interview, Johansson teased that the upcoming blockbuster will probably shed light on the origins of Natasha Romanoff.

In the sequel, you learn more about the sadness in her past. I think of her that way. Black Widow is a superhero, but she’s also human. She’s small, but she’s strong. It’s hard not to admire her.

Black Widow’s life before S.H.I.E.L.D. has been revealed in small bits and pieces thus far, films like The Avengers and The Winter Soldier, so another angle of who Romanoff was before she became a S.H.I.E.L.D. master assassin is just another fascinating sub-plot for the anticipated summer blockbuster to utilize.
