It seems like there’s a battle going on for which screenwriter will win out as the official writer for the sequel to everyone’s favorite naughty holiday flick: Bad Santa.
Apparently, Mirarmax studios commissioned two writers, Johnny Rosenthal and John Phillips, to pen the sequel’s screenplay, which is set to bring back actor Billy Bob Thornton, according to the LA Times.
Such practices of hiring more than one screenwriter to work on a script aren’t unheard of in Hollywood. In fact, similar situations occurred during the creation of the Bourne films. Except in this case, the contenders are aware of the fact that they’re even competing.
Let’s just hope that whomever comes out victorious in this battle of the scribes for Bad Santa 2 remembers their humble beginnings when fighting over who get’s to write Bad Santa 3.
