The past holiday and summer Wachowski “blockbusters” have proven to be flops from Cloud Atlas to Speed Racer. So the February release date will hopefully bode well for ticket sales, as the schedule promises Fifty Shades of Grey, the Poltergeist remake, and a new SpongeBob Squarepants sequel. There isn’t any competition in the sci-fi department during the month either. Seeing how none of other movies set for release are gaining any positive buzz, Jupiter Ascending should be considered the frontrunner or a strong second for that opening weekend, especially with its pop culture-heavy cast and special effects potential.
