MGM had a list of A-list actors in mind to play the main lead in the remake, which included Johnny Depp, Keanu Reeves, and Tom Cruise. Several other actors were also attached such as Michael Fassbender, Matthias Schoenaerts, Russell Crowe, Clive Owen, Edward Norton, Sean Penn, Gael García Bernal, Rebecca Hall, and Hugh Laurie, who was in negotiations to play Michael Keaton’s role.
Sin City creator Frank Miller not only cameoed in RoboCop 2, but wrote the original screenplay, which was deemed “unfilmable” by the studio and later turned into a nine-part comic book series.
The original color of the suit was meant to be bright blue, but was changed to a metallic gray as it produced less camera glare.
