With recent reports suggesting Chevy will not offer a ZR1 version of its seventh-generation Corvette, words on the Internet is the automaker could possibly launch a track-ready Z06 variant sometime in the future. Originally revealed at SEMA 2010, the 2015 Corvette Z06X was seen flaunting new racing wheels, adjustable suspension, and other aerodynamic upgrades that help increase downforce. Chevy product manager Harlan Charles spoke with Car and Driver during NAIAS 2014 about the possibility of launching the racetrack speedster:

“The idea was a non-street-legal, factory-built track car, and that is something that we are considering would be a great thing to apply to the new Corvette Z06. I mean that’s something we could see in the future. We’ve got a lot of ideas, but nothing to show today, unfortunately.”

Let’s hope we see this beauty hit the road sometime late 2014.
