1. The Fight for Net Neutrality
Like the past few years, 2014 has experienced the endangerment of the Internet as we know it: the threat to abolish net neutrality. Net neutrality is a fancy name for what online users naturally expect. In short, it forces Internet providers to treat all content equally, regardless of affiliations, partnerships, etc. Unfortunately, net neutrality is in danger due to the moneymaking agendas of large providers like Comcast and Verizon. And what’s worse, these providers are continuing to gain power and support. The good news is that there’s still hope – over 100 companies including names like Facebook and Google have come together in favor of the cause. The fight, once one-sided, is starting to even out. We’ll see who comes out on top at the end of 2014.
