Sony Kinda Forgets It Has a Handheld
This was just not a good E3 for the PS Vita. Sony’s handheld console was barely mentioned during the company’s near-two-hour press conference. And despite SCEA CEO Shawn Layden’s assurance that “the PS Vita remains a key pillar for us,” and that over 100 titles are being developed for the handheld, Sony choose not to highlight a single Vita game. Instead, it focused solely on their PS4 line-up. In fact, the only announcements at all concerning the system during the show involved cross-platform titles like the re-release of Grim Fandango. And worst of all, it doesn’t seem like Sony’s rather dismissive attitude toward the Vita will be changing: in a recent interview, SCEI CEO Andrew House said that the company has “taken a more holistic view with our platforms” and that “Vita has now essentially become an extender or enhancer for the main platform.” Ouch.
