With the news that Warner Bros is attempting to do a spin-off film for the Harry Potter franchise, many have been wondering what, if anything is next for the characters in Suzanne Collins’ books. In a recent interview with Empire, Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence spoke about the possibility of continuing the story of Panem after the studio has exhausted the material from the book trilogy.
Lawrence explained that in Harry Potter, “there’s a lot to that world that you can explain,” without directly involved Harry, Hermione and Ron. HOwever, he questioned, “without Katniss, is [Panem] the same?” Considering the fan base for the Hunger Games franchise, a spin-off would be a great moneymaking opportunity, so the question is really whether or not there is material available to create a solid plot in a spin-off film.
For now, fans will have to wait until the November release of Mockingjay: Part 1 in a few short weeks.
