After a three-year hiatus, Spike Lee is back on the film scene. The Brooklyn native and acclaimed director has just signed on to direct the remake of the 2003 South Korean award-winning thriler: Oldboy. The film’s premise revolves around a kidnapped man who’s been imprisoned for 15 years, and after being released from captivity, he discovers that he has yet to experience true meaning of tortute. Oldboy had been stuck in development limbo for quite several years with Steven Spielberg once attached to the direct and Will Smith to star. Lee’s 40 Acres & A Mule Productions will produce the film, alongside with Vertigo Entertainment. An announcement like this should surely attract a big leaguer like Smith, but we’ll see who Lee has in mind for the lead.
