Considering the unanticipated, overwhelming success of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Fox is moving fast to get the next major installment in the series in production. Director Bryan Singer released a photo of the treatment for X-Men: Apocalypse through Instagram on June 6th, revealing that Singer, Simon Kinberg, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris have collaborated on the screenplay. But that’s not the big news.
Apocalypse will supposedly start filming this coming April, with sets being constructed in the meantime. Another major update is the fact that the Four Horsemen, who were seen in the background as Apocalypse created the pyramids at the end of the last film, will also be featured in the sequel. Something most X-Men fans should be ecstatic to hear.
It is not confirmed yet whether Singer will return to the director’s chair due to his recent legal issues. However, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Hugh Jackman have all been confirmed to return, with the film set for release on May 27th, 2016. Fans should expect a very different tone for Apocalypse, which is said to be much darker than previous films in the franchise.
