With Entertainment Weekley Magazine’s Owen Gilberman rating Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” with a B, and fans pouring out of the theater’s applauding the highly anticipated documentary; the film took in $2.2 million in late Tuesday night screenings in North America, and its Los Angeles premiere; while early Wednesday matinee showings were exceeding that figure. With much enthusiasm for the release of “This Is It”, fans were mixed with sadness that one of the biggest stars and most disturbed celebrities died before he could live out his final comeback to the limelight.
“This is it” was cut from 80 hours of film rehearsals and 50 London concerts planned from July, the nearly two-hour film features Jackson singing and dancing to some of his biggest hits, including “Beat It”, “Thriller”, “Black or White,” and “Man in the Mirror”. Throughout the film, audiences see Jackson as he worked with his singers and dancers to create a show that would amaze his fans. Critics have been positive, describing the film as a fitting tribute to a star that has captivated the world with his dance moves and vocals, as well as his appearance and legal troubles.
