Just when everything was running smooth on the third Expendables film, now comes word from creator Sylvester Stallone that The Expendables 3 will not receive an R rating. So should we expect an unrated film? Ha. Variety received the confirmation from the franchise lead:
“Sylvester Stallone confirmed that the film would be PG-13 and that there was a “good chance” of a female “Expendables” movie. On the question of ratings, he said the film would be “very close to an R,” but added, “We think we owe it to the next generation that they don’t have to sneak in to our film.”
Wait…what? Sly obviously didn’t learn his lesson from the last time–making the same attempt with The Expendables 2, which was met with an online petition to keep it rated R. If the decision stands, guess we’ll wait for the director’s cut. The Expendables 3 hits theaters on August 15th.
In THE EXPENDABLES 3, Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables — but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.
