The Amazing Spider-Man franchise has been a disappointment up to this point and there is no clarity as to what the direction of the franchise has in store after The Sinister Six. In the past, Andrew Garfield has expressed his desire for his incarnation of Spider-Man to be a part of Marvel’s Avengers Initiative, but The Avengers are owned by Marvel and The Amazing Spider-Man is owned by Sony and at there were no plans for a potential crossover between the franchises in the foreseeable future. Apparently, that could change considering the bleak outlook for the future of the Spider-Man saga.
While I can’t get the confirmations I need to verify the story, I’m hearing that there are some very cool “Spider-Man” plans being discussed that would help Sony refocus their enormously important franchise while also opening up some connections in the onscreen Marvel movie universe that would blow fandom’s minds.
Considering that Spider-Man has taken a saddening turn, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Sony is trying to come up with some “very cool ‘Spider-Man’ plans” to help get the franchise back on track. Granted, there is nothing material beyond The Sinister Six at this point, but Sony does need to up the ante regarding the quality of their money spinner. Somehow getting Spidey to fight alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes does fall under the category of upping the ante.
