Twitter is finally the bearer of good news, announcing Philips is building a concept prototype for a new iOS 8 widget that will work alongside smart home devices. The widget could give users more control over Philip’s Hue wireless lighting system from their iPhone’s notification center. It also offers a selection of different lighting settings, like Sunset and Deep Sea color schemes.
With the ever present creation of new technologies, we can only assume this will be the first on many new “smart home” apps developed for the iPhone. With such possibilities opened for Apple products, the doors for future Android users have been opened wide. Apple’s iOS 8 software isn’t due out until the fall, but it’s nice to get a glimpse of what developers are thinking new features.
With these new widgets, improvements to Siri, and Apple’s own HomeKit platform, iOS is really starting to shape up to be a solid platform for smart phones and the future smart home.
