The Internet went into quasi-berserk mode these past 48 hours, as a leaked promotional poster for the new Mortal Kombat game surfaced, which features a broken spinal cord and the MK logo at the bottom. Adding to the anticipation of an announcement comes news of the game’s official website briefly coming down and restored with just a blank page and the same redesigned logo shown on the “Who’s Next” poster.
Series creator Ed Boon has been teasing fans throughout the entire week on Twitter, who finally gave in and stated a reveal would be coming on June 2nd. He even calls out rapper Wiz Khalifa in good fun next week.
The industry last saw a Mortal Kombat game back in 2011, a reboot of the franchise that achieved universal acclaim. NetherRealm’s has since gone to achieve success with another fighting franchise, Injustice: Gods Among Us, based on the DC Comics universe. As fun as the title was, nothing beats MK. We look forward to the big reveal.
