All eyes are on the new Star Wars trilogy, starting with Episode VII: The Force Awakens, but the folks at Disney and LucasFilm are busy crafting other adventures for the Star Wars franchise. Yesterday, it was announced that Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars spin-off is the first of an anthology titled Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One. Starring recent Oscar nominee Felicity Jones, the plot of Rogue One takes place between the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope. The premise of Rogue One is essentially a heist; a band of rebels attempt to steal the battle plans of the original Death Star. This “Anthology” series is an exciting venture for the hard-workers at Lucasfilm, in fact, according to Kathleen Kennedy, the idea of the new Anthology films came from (no surprise here) George Lucas.
It was really George’s idea, not only picking up the saga again – which he never envisioned he would do… he was really interested in exploring all the stories that might exist within the universe.
Further details regarding are still in development, but director Gareth Edwards has cautioned fans to expect the unexpected regarding this heist that occurred a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
