Lou Scheimer, one of the co-founders of Filmation Studios passed away at the age of 84. Scheimer, along with Hal Sutherland and Norm Prescott founded Filmation in 1962 and are the creators of a catalog of cartoons that include some of the most successful and recognizable names from the ’70s and ’80s. The studio’s first success came in the late ’60s through a relationship with DC Comics in the form of The New Adventures of Superman, that led to The Superman/Aguaman Hour of Adventure, The Batman Superman Hour and the Adventures of Batman. Other titles they would go on to create are Sabrina the Teenage Witch Show, Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids, Star Trek: The Animated Series, The New Adventures of Flash Gordon, plus their most famous release He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and the accompanying She-Ra.
At its peak in the ’80’s, Filmation was the largest animation studio in the US and had amassed a library of work consisting of approximately 1200 TV episodes, 50 series, five feature films, and a breadth of work ranging from action, animation, commercials, and feature films. He will be missed.
