Over the weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy finally crossed north of the $700 million mark at the worldwide box office and James Gunn spoke about potential plans regarding the sequel.
“It’s going to be a really surprising open. What happens is all the characters are killed in the first 10 minutes. In really horribly brutal fashion.”
I hope James Gunn never loses that sense of humor. It’s what made Guardians such a smash over the summer. Of course he’s kidding! Gunn confirmed that Star-Lord, Gamorra, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon and Groot will be alive and well for the sequel. He even hinted that the team of intergalactic anti-heroic outlaws will have some new additions, but Gunn does admit that he has been hard at work for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 for a while now.
“I spent all day on Aug. 1, the day the first movie was released, writing ‘Guardians 2.’ I was so excited about it and I was finally able to let go of the last one and begin the second one. I always saw this as a universe, not just as one story.”
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will arrive in theaters on July 28, 2017. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper are all confirmed to return to the franchise.
