Like heroes, there is a time for them to rise up and now is the time for the DC Movie Universe (DCMU). DC is building its cinematic empire with the anticipation of Batman v. Superman, Justice League, and Suicide Squad. But with that in store, DC has an advantage over Marvel because much of the DCMU capitalizes on magic and mythology. DC is planning to introduce Shazam, a character who is between supernatural force and traditional superheroics. Initially, when the DC line up was announced Shazam was not on the roster, however, this statement was retracted. Looks like the hero will be coming sooner than expected.
According to Screenrant, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (who will be villain Black Adam), says things are progressing so well, the film could be released sooner. Of course, the claim of sooner than later is sketchy because there has yet to be a director named or a lead actor cast in the role of the film. But should we see the film before the scheduled release date (April 5, 2019), it has potential to be a very big film for the DCMU. Factor in the nature of Shazam’s power- a boy uses a magic word that transform him into a hero. Very magical and room for marketable product. With darkness of the other films, it could offer something light-hearted for audiences.
